About the talk: Recent case law has highlighted the question of the remedies available to a creditor of a member of a single-member LLC.  These developments are also concerning for their potential impact on even multi-member LLCs. 

·         The current status of case law defining the parameters of limited liability protections offered by various types of entities.
·         Whether single-member LLCs are of any utility for asset protection.
·         What will these single-member LLC cases mean for companies that have utilized single-member LLCs rather than subsidiary corporations
·         What State Legislatures might be expected to do
The impact on remedies pursued by creditors.

Speaker bio: Christopher M. Riser is the managing partner of Riser Adkisson LLP’s East Coast office in Athens, Georgia. Chris earned his A.B., M.A., and J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his LL.M. in Estate Planning from the University of Miami. Chris is admitted to practice law in Georgia and North Carolina, and as a Solicitor in England & Wales. He is the immediate past Chair (2006-2010) of the Asset Protection Planning Committee of the American Bar Association's Real Property Trusts & Estates Section. Chris and his law partner Jay Adkisson are the co-authors of “Asset Protection: Concepts & Strategies for Protecting Your Wealth," published in 2004 by McGraw-Hill, which has become the bestselling book on the subject. In 2010, their book was translated into Chinese and published in Asia by McGraw-Hill and China Renmin University Press.
