About the presentation: The presentation will provide attendees with an overview of qualified opportunity zones, including the original version of the program enacted in 2017 as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), and the changes to the program implemented as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). The presentation will also discuss the tax and other potential benefits associated with investing in an opportunity zone.

About the Speaker:
Brian Figueroa is a trusted estate planning attorney who guides high-net-worth individuals and families through complex legal and financial matters with clarity, empathy, and long-term perspective.
Brian is a Member of the Firm’s Estate Planning and Probate Department at Lewis Rice. He advises high-net-worth individuals and families on a wide range of personal and business matters, including sophisticated estate and wealth preservation planning, business succession strategies, prenuptial agreements, charitable planning, trust modifications, and the preparation of federal gift and estate tax returns. Brian also represents and assists individual and professional fiduciaries in the administration of complex estates and trusts.
Known for establishing personal, long-term relationships with his clients, Brian guides them through legal, tax, financial, and family considerations with empathy and care. He works closely with clients and their advisors to navigate the evolving planning landscape and ensure that each strategy reflects the client’s goals and values.
During law school, Brian spent two summers with Lewis Rice as a summer associate. He was a Dean’s Scholar and served on the editorial board of the Saint Louis University Law Journal.

Ryan Furtick is a tax and corporate advisor who helps clients navigate complex transactions and planning matters with precision and practical insight. Ryan serves as Practice Group Leader for the Taxation practice group at Lewis Rice. His broad-based tax practice includes federal income tax planning for individuals, partnerships, LLCs, and corporations, with a focus on business and succession planning. Ryan regularly advises clients on the tax aspects of complex transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures, and private equity deals. He also represents clients in tax controversy matters before the IRS and various state and local taxing authorities. Ryan’s corporate practice complements his tax work, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, business structuring, corporate governance, and general business representation. He works with businesses and their owners throughout the entire life cycle of the enterprise, representing both buyers and sellers across a wide range of industries. Ryan was selected for inclusion in the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list for 2025. As a member of the Recruiting Committee, Ryan supports firm culture and talent development at Lewis Rice.
